After being expanded and converted into a residential treatment facility in 1972, this building has been converted back to its original use when it was built in 1963. This existing, 2-story 19,500 sf building has been transformed back into a sorority, completing a full circle of adaptive reuse. While most of the primary structure and systems remained, the building was updated with new interior and exterior finishes and some revisions to the interior layout for the sorority use. The new exterior stucco, paint colors, wood wall cladding system and landmark steel canopy structure at the main entrance give the façade of the building a fresh and modern look, transforming the facility’s presence in the neighborhood. Interior improvements to the main lobby, gathering spaces, dining hall, bedrooms and bathrooms/showers allow the facility to more efficiently and comfortably accommodate the sorority members.
The primary building renovations included:
• A new front entry awning and residential-style architectural doors.
• New exterior finishes and colors.
• New egress windows in the dormitory rooms.
• New reconfigured spaces to accommodate sorority space programming needs, such as the conversion of two existing meeting rooms into one large multipurpose room.
• 34 new long-term bicycle parking spaces as required for the campus living organization.
• New sprinklers and applicable ADA-compliance upgrades.
These improvements provide a high quality campus living environment that serves the current sorority residents as well as allows the facility to be easily adapted to other residential uses in the future if desired
